Explorable images enable observation, exploration, mediation and conversation around high-resolution gigapixel imagery for science communication and learning. We focus on the collaborative practice of learning to see and seeing to learn. The University of Pittsburgh’s UPCLOSE, together with CREATE and our museum collaborators, design and evaluate demonstration projects to study how explorable image technology fosters innovative forms of participatory science learning.
